Dr Caitlin Lian

A little about me. I have been practicing acupuncture and Chinese medicine for 16 years on the Sunshine Coast. Over the course of the past 21 years Chinese Medicine has been many things to me: an interest, a passion, an obsession, and a purpose. Practicing an empirical medicine with a strong heritage, having the opportunity to remain the eternal student, and being in a role of service are all important aspects of why I love doing what I do.

I endeavour to empower my patients towards better health with simple, tailored and constructive solutions. Whether it be a pain free period, or a regular menstrual cycle, a menopausal flush-less day, a less painful day, a more comfortable body, or help to just feel more like yourself, I would love to help you reach your health goals.

I graduated with Distinction in 2006 from Western Sydney University, after interning at Jiang Su Provincial Hospital in Nan Jing, China. In 2008 I was the first doctor of Chinese medicine to work with the Hands Across Borders Society at their free health clinic in Jambiani, on the Island of Unguja in the Zanzibar archipelago, Tanzania. In 2010 I also trained with the US based Acupuncturists Without Borders for administering treatment in the context of disaster and emergency settings.

With a particular interest in Master Tung Style acupuncture, and Jing Fang (classical herbalism pre-dating the Traditional Chinese Medicine model), and a belief in the strengths of an integrative medical model, I like to offer solution orientated, practical and grounded strategies to help people work towards and achieve their health goals. I like to avoid dogma in my study and practice of medicine, and pay attention to both emerging scientific developments and research, as well as time tested empirical evidence.

My clinical interest is in women’s health (menstrual problems, pregnancy issues, menopause, miscellaneous gynaecological concerns), pain (severe, acute & chronic), chronic diseases, immune and autoimmune conditions. I have had success working with many types of illnesses.

I remain committed to an ongoing study of Chinese medicine, and have studied under Dr Huang Huang, Dr Heiner Fruehauf, Sharon Weizenbaum, Brad Whisnant.
